French President Macron Addresses Riots and Iran Conflict
Emmanuel Macron, facing domestic turmoil, attributed some of the widespread riots in France to the U.S. war against Iran. This claim, part of his televised speech, drew criticism from various experts. Macron highlighted economic challenges, such as the rising cost of living and fuel prices, linking them to the Persian Gulf conflict. He noted that France, although not directly involved, faces repercussions from the conflict’s influence on energy markets.
To address these issues, Macron plans to visit the Gulf region for discussions on the energy crisis. The unrest has seen diverse groups converge, including students, climate activists, former ‘Yellow Vests,’ and farmers, with an estimated 200,000 participants nationwide on October 17, 2026.
Macron maintained a firm stance against those trying to destabilize the republic, promising accountability. Former U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation, urging France to secure its borders to prevent further damage.
A French foreign ministry spokesperson directed further inquiries to Macron’s prior address, while Lisa Daftari, an expert on Iran, critiqued Macron’s focus, citing Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz as a significant factor in fuel price hikes. Daftari emphasized that these riots reflect organized chaos rather than mere dissatisfaction with fuel costs.
As violence and unrest continue, the French Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, condemned the alleged orchestration of disorder by the ultra-left movement. Barak Seener from the Henry Jackson Society also warned about illegal immigration serving as a disruptive force, masking more extensive geopolitical agendas.
Amidst these developments, Vice President JD Vance criticized France’s immigration policy for its negative impact, urging reflection on assimilation challenges.
The French political scene faces scrutiny over its stance on global issues, as articulated by Seener, who referenced Macron’s past remarks on Hamas and emphasized a disconnect between political narratives and ground realities. He highlighted the role of various radical organizations in fueling the unrest.
