Georgia Pair Charged with Murder of Bartender

A couple from Georgia faces murder charges after police allege they killed a bartender and disposed of his dismembered body in a lake. Authorities arrested Mario Andre Barber, 46, and Brittany Amber Baker, 42, for allegedly murdering 37-year-old Jamal Rashad Parker. The incident happened at a residence near Atlanta, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Parker’s remains were found in May in the Dog River Reservoir, approximately 30 miles from Atlanta. DNA technology confirmed his identity after his father matched Parker’s tattoos to those on the remains, as reported by WSB-TV.

Investigators suspect the murder occurred in a Douglasville home where Baker resided. Recently, authorities were seen leaving the location with a reciprocating saw and cleaning materials. The relationship between Parker and the suspects remains unclear, but a family member’s GoFundMe described them as individuals he trusted.

The suspects pleaded not guilty during a Tuesday court appearance and are held without bail, having extensive criminal histories. Parker’s father, Charles Parker, expressed his desire for severe punishment for the suspects, doubting that life sentences could suffice. “It’s the kind of stuff you see on TV, but I mean … they had no remorse,” he told WSB-TV outside the courthouse.

Parker bartended at Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar in Atlanta and was known as a musical and visual artist. A GoFundMe page raised funds for his burial, describing him as someone who “loved life and the people he met along his journey.” The page highlights the loss felt by family and friends, stating that the murder has left them heartbroken.
