Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed unexpected praise for President Donald Trump regarding his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict in a recent appearance in New York City. During a conversation with David Remnick of The New Yorker at 92NY, Clinton discussed various topics including the Israel-Iran conflict and former President Joe Biden’s re-election announcement.
The discussion turned to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, with Remnick questioning Clinton on the viability of a two-state solution in the region. Remnick noted that neither the Israeli nor the Palestinian sides seem open to a two-state solution at present.
You might be, but you might not be,Clinton responded when asked if a two-state solution still held promise.
Clinton then highlighted Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, emphasizing it as a potential path to security for Israel, reconstruction for Gaza, and self-determination for Palestinians. She noted that although many dismiss the plan due to Trump’s involvement, it remains one of the few options that addresses the conflict comprehensively.
She stated, If officials take Trump’s plan and apply it entirely, it could offer a feasible solution to the ongoing conflict. Clinton pointed to the necessity of disarming Hamas as part of this plan, alongside reconstruction efforts in the region.
The 20-point plan introduced by Trump includes measures like granting amnesty to Hamas militants who disarm, establishing Gaza as a terror-free zone, and commercial redevelopment. According to the plan, if both sides agree, a ceasefire will occur, leading to Israeli military withdrawal and ending hostilities.
In January, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff stated that the plan’s second phase, transitioning the region from ceasefire to demilitarization and governance, had begun. Chairing the Board of Peace, Trump aims to oversee Gaza’s transition from conflict to peace. This board focuses on mobilizing resources and ensuring accountability in the region’s redevelopment efforts.
