Indiana Fever’s Winning Streak Continues as Kelsey Mitchell Shines
Fever star guard Kelsey Mitchell delivered an impressive performance on Tuesday night, scoring 16 points in the first quarter and finishing with a total of 29 points. Indiana defeated the Toronto Tempo 101-95, marking their fifth consecutive victory.
Caitlin Clark contributed 24 points to maintain Indiana’s winning momentum, even with Mitchell sitting out the fourth quarter. This game placed Clark and Mitchell in the WNBA record book. The duo has now scored at least 20 points each in 16 games this season, surpassing the previous record of 15 set by Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter with the Phoenix Mercury in 2008.
Kelsey Mitchell’s performance puts her alongside another league superstar. Her 29-point night marked her 20th consecutive game scoring at least 20 points, matching WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson’s record.
Despite Mitchell suffering from overheating and leaving the game in the third quarter, her impact was substantial. Fever head coach Stephanie White explained Mitchell’s early exit due to overheating.
Additional team contributions came from Aliyah Boston with 16 points and Sophie Cunningham, who made all her three 3-point attempts, finishing with 13 points. Indiana consistently led throughout the game, extending their success to winning 10 of the last 12 games. Toronto, on the other hand, suffered their 11th straight loss despite Marina Mabrey’s two late 3-pointers.
In a prior ESPN profile, Cunningham’s remarks opposing transgender girls and women participating in women’s sports led to mixed reactions from the crowd during the game. Fans expressed a range of emotions, cheering when Cunningham missed a free throw and when a supporter of transgender rights was shown on the video screen.
The Fever are set to face the Dallas Wings on Thursday, while the Tempo will play against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.
