CBS News has reported that the sailboat utilized by Brian and Lynette Hooker for their travels around the Bahamas contained an infrared camera designed to detect heat radiation. This camera, produced by the technology company FLIR, includes a cloud memory system, which might contain vital evidence in the ongoing search for Lynette Hooker. Lynette’s disappearance was reported by her husband on April 5, stating she fell overboard during a nighttime dinghy ride.
The infrared camera was aboard the Hookers’ sailboat, named the “Soulmate,” when seized by the U.S. Coast Guard earlier this month. Sources close to the investigation note the camera is under scrutiny; however, it remains uncertain if Brian Hooker utilized it. The camera is being processed as part of the investigation.
Such infrared cameras are often employed by boaters for safety purposes, especially to navigate during nighttime. They are valuable tools for detecting individuals who fall overboard and preventing collisions in complete darkness.
Fox News initially reported the presence of the camera. A friend of the couple, Daniel Danforth, shared with CBS News that Brian Hooker demonstrated the device while they were all docked in New Orleans in March 2023.
The Coast Guard Investigative Services continues to lead the investigation into Lynette Hooker’s disappearance. Brian Hooker has rejected any misconduct accusations and has not faced any criminal charges. He had been questioned in the Bahamas but was eventually released and returned to the U.S.
