Vice President JD Vance had a surprising experience on ‘The View,’ where he appeared during his book tour for ‘Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.’ Despite expecting harsh criticism, Vance found the hosts only mildly contentious.
On ‘Gutfeld!,’ Vance reflected, ‘I expected them to be absolutely vicious, and they were only a little bit vicious. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.’ He shared an unexpected compliment from Joy Behar, ‘You know what? You’re, like, pretty good for a Republican.’

Nonetheless, the show was not entirely positive. Vance joked about his expectations being defied, ‘I thought that Sunny, the woman to my left, was going to call me a racist. In reality, it was Whoopi, the woman to my right, who called me a racist.’
Vance likely referred to a tense discussion with Whoopi Goldberg regarding claims about the Trump administration’s influence on Black history exhibits in museums. The exchange highlighted contrasting views between Vance and the show’s hosts, covering topics like Trump’s inflation remarks and immigration.
Ahead of his appearance, Vance spoke with Fox News Digital, expressing hope for a productive dialogue with the host panel, ‘It may be the optimist in me, but I just fundamentally think that most people — not everybody, but most people — even if I disagree with them, you ought to try to have a conversation with them.’ He intended to approach the conversation positively and hoped for mutual understanding.
