Joey Chestnut reaffirmed his status as a hot dog eating legend by securing his 18th victory at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. This year, Chestnut devoured 66 hot dogs and buns at Coney Island, marking his 10th consecutive win. Despite a setback during the 2024 event due to sponsorship complications, he made a triumphant return in 2025.
The competition was intense from the onset. Chestnut found himself in a close race with former champion Patrick Bertoletti and competitor James Webb during the initial 90 seconds. However, as time progressed, Chestnut pulled ahead. By the three-minute mark, he had consumed 28 hot dogs, while Webb and Bertoletti lagged at 22 and 21 respectively. At the halfway point, Chestnut reached 42 hot dogs, establishing a significant lead.
With a target of matching his own record of 76, Chestnut maintained an impressive pace despite challenges posed by fatigue and heat. He reached the 60-hot dog mark with a minute remaining, ultimately finishing with a total of 66.
Prior to the contest, Chestnut faced personal challenges. He was on a 180-day probation following a guilty plea for misdemeanor battery, an incident occurring in an Indiana bar. Despite this, authorities allowed him to participate in the New York event.
Meanwhile, Miki Sudo claimed victory in the women’s division, achieving her 12th win with 39 hot dogs and buns, continuing a winning streak that began in 2014.
