Kandi Krush stands out as a formidable force in the Women of Wrestling (WOW) ranks. Alongside Coach Campanelli and Gloria Glitter, collectively known as Top Tier, Krush has previously held the WOW World Trios Championship. However, the alliance shifted, seeing Krush and Campanelli oust Glitter from the group.
Krush’s path in professional wrestling has been anything but straightforward. Formerly pursuing a career in synchronized swimming with Olympic aspirations, she faced setbacks due to injuries and what she described as a “toxic environment.” This led her to abandon dreams of a gold medal.
“My dreams were kind of stripped from me,” she explained.
Instead of giving up, Krush chose to redirect her efforts. Her resilience surfaced as she transitioned to boxing, where she went undefeated at the professional level. This shift in focus again met obstacles when the COVID-19 pandemic forced a pause, closing gyms and casting uncertainty on her career. Despite these challenges, her passion for performing under bright lights remained a driving force.
Krush’s interest in professional wrestling sparked after watching a film featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, prompting her to explore opportunities in wrestling. She responded to a WOW tryout advertisement and immersed herself in the wrestling world, even if her chances of making it to a match seemed slim. Her determination to succeed never wavered.
“Even if they call me to tell me that I’m cut, like not to show up the next day, I’m going to show up,” Krush shared.
This tenacity paid off, eventually leading her to make a name for herself in WOW. Learning from past wrestling legends, she embraced the challenge and thrived, driven by a desire to inspire others.
Krush draws strength from an unwavering spirit rooted in her upbringing, especially the lessons instilled by her mother. This outlook emphasizes learning from failure rather than quitting, a mantra she carries both in boxing and wrestling.
“No losses, only lessons,” she recounted.
Her commitment to role modeling resonates with her audience. An experience during an early title shot typified this, as she recalled laying on the canvas, encouraged by a young fan’s voice.
“Get up, Kandi Krush. You can do it,” the young supporter urged.
This encouragement underscored Krush’s mission to inspire resilience in others, leaving a lasting impact on her path forward.
Through wrestling, she continues to reach and motivate, fully aware of the platform she holds to empower others, much like her own journey.
Women of Wrestling, co-founded by Los Angeles Lakers minority owner Jeanie Buss, streams on Tubi and Vice TV. Upcoming shows will shift to L.A. Live in Los Angeles for Season 5.
Buss remarked:
“Season 5 is personal for me in a new way. Fans are going to see a side of WOW they haven’t seen before,” she expressed to Variety.
WOW aims to provide a stage for women in sports, and Krush embodies this vision, showcasing strength and perseverance in the wrestling arena.
