Karoline Leavitt Reflects on Trump’s Candid Diplomatic Style
Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared insights into President Donald Trump’s straightforward approach to diplomacy. In an interview, she recounted tense conversations with foreign leaders and highlighted Trump’s candidness.
On the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast, Leavitt described Trump’s interactions during phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as his discussions with allies such as former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Leavitt detailed a lunch she attended with Trump and Starmer, expressing how Trump directly confronted Starmer on his policies. According to Leavitt, Trump criticized Starmer’s approach to immigration and border policies.
She emphasized that Trump’s private dialogues with foreign leaders reflected his public statements. Leavitt stated that Trump’s honesty and directness in private negotiations eventually surfaced in his press conferences.
During discussions with Putin and Xi, Leavitt noted Trump’s direct approach, despite the tense nature of the calls. She explained that while Trump often uses colorful language, he remains professional in translator-assisted conversations.
Leavitt recalled Trump’s focus on addressing issues such as fentanyl manufacturing in China during his talks with Xi. She highlighted Trump’s insistence on tackling this issue, which resulted in action shortly after.
Furthermore, Trump pressed China to increase soybean purchases to benefit American farmers, a demand that was met following the meeting. Leavitt described Trump’s steadfast commitment to advocating for U.S. interests.
In August, Leavitt decided to step down from her role as press secretary, citing her desire to spend more time with her family following the birth of her second child.
