U.S. special envoy Jared Kushner issued a firm warning to Hamas, demanding the group disarm in Gaza or face an Israeli military operation. This ultimatum was delivered during an exclusive conversation with Fox News chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst. The meetings focused on advancing President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.
Despite an October ceasefire, Israel has conducted air strikes and expanded territory in Gaza. Hamas, on the other hand, has not surrendered its weapons. This situation raises tensions as diplomatic efforts continue. Kushner’s recent meetings in Egypt and Israel illustrate the high-stakes negotiations involved.
Kushner first met with Hamas representatives in Cairo alongside the National Committee, which is set to govern Gaza. Hamas asserted its commitment to Trump’s 20-point peace plan and the ongoing roadmap of disarmament. Kushner expressed cautious optimism about this progress, stating that the U.S. anticipates further steps in the peace process.
If they don’t follow through now on their commitment, everyone will see that they’re not genuine about peace, and then Israel will have a lot more support from the U.S. and others to go and finish the job in the appropriate way,Kushner warned.
Kushner’s message to Hamas included the possibility of Israeli military action if commitments are not met. He noted the difficulty in trusting a group with a history of violence but remained hopeful about the peace negotiations. The proposed U.S. plan involves a phased ceasefire, demilitarization, Israeli withdrawal, and reconstruction efforts.
In Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, Kushner engaged with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The core issue discussed was the timeline for roadmap execution. Israel requires complete demilitarization before further actions, while Hamas demands simultaneous withdrawal and disarmament.
Despite these challenges, Kushner remains optimistic, highlighting productive meetings with Israeli officials. He has emphasized the importance of Gaza reconstruction being contingent on demilitarization and affirming Israel’s right to self-defense.
The ongoing conflict stems from a terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which claimed nearly 1,200 lives in southern Israel. This has led to prolonged clashes, impacting regional stability for nearly three years. According to Kushner, there is a pervasive desire for peace among the populace in the region.
Israel has a strong desire to live in peace…Kushner remarked.
Kushner also expressed confidence in President Trump’s diplomatic skills, suggesting optimism for achieving a lasting peace. Recent developments, including regional dialogues and increased international involvement, suggest movement toward resolving longstanding issues.
