Trump Criticizes CNN Reporter During Oval Office Exchange
President Donald Trump engaged in a tense exchange with CNN reporter Kristen Holmes in the Oval Office. Trump labeled her as ‘disrespectful’ when she attempted to ask follow-up questions regarding South Korea.
This incident occurred while Trump fielded questions, and Holmes inquired about Senator Jon Ossoff’s viral comments. Ossoff had accused Trump of preferring social events over presidential duties. Trump’s response was to dismiss Ossoff’s statements by referring to him as ‘Pee-wee Herman.’
The Rapid Response 47 account criticized Holmes for bringing up Ossoff’s remarks, which had sparked unfounded allegations of an inappropriate relationship between Trump and White House aide Natalie Harp. The account labeled Holmes’ question as disgraceful and humiliating.
“Holmes is a disgraceful, humiliating embarrassment to her alleged profession,” the Rapid Response account stated on X.
CNN stood behind its correspondent, affirming that Holmes is a respected journalist performing her duty by asking pertinent questions. “Public officials are free to challenge reporting they disagree with, but personal attacks on journalists for asking questions are beneath the office,” CNN stated.
Prior to this exchange, Trump hosted 16-year-old Ryder Williams, a lifeguard recognized for rescuing Nathaniel Rai off the coast of Santa Cruz, California. During the Oval Office meeting, Trump criticized Holmes for trying to ask another question, telling her to be quiet and labeling her as ‘fake news.’
“You’re very disrespectful in front of this young man. Don’t you find her disrespectful?” Trump remarked to the child guest. Holmes identified herself as being with CNN, prompting Trump to declare her ‘fake news.’
