L.A. County Deputies Respond to Pit Bull Attack

An L.A. County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a pit bull during an attack in Lancaster on Monday morning, according to authorities. The incident occurred in the 43200 block of 20th Street West.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at 9:53 a.m. about a dog attack. Upon arrival, they encountered a pit bull attacking a man in a front yard. The man was unresponsive, and the yard had a locked gate.

A deputy attempted to stop the attack using verbal commands, but the dog did not respond. The deputy then shot the animal, ending the attack. The pit bull was declared dead at the scene.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital. He was listed in stable condition as of Monday evening.

The department discovered the pit bull belonged to a family member living with the victim. Investigations into the cause of the attack remain ongoing. L.A. County Animal Control took custody of the dog’s remains.

“When our deputies arrived, they encountered a life-threatening emergency and acted without hesitation to save a man’s life,” Lancaster Station Capt. Paul Bartlett said. “After stopping the attack, they immediately transitioned from addressing the threat to providing lifesaving medical care until firefighters arrived.”

A similar incident occurred last July in Lancaster, where a man died following a pit bull attack. In that case, deputies also intervened by shooting one of the dogs.
