Lane Kiffin returned to Oxford’s Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to coach the LSU Tigers against his former team, Ole Miss. The atmosphere on Saturday night was charged, as Kiffin received a chilly reception from the home fans.
Ole Miss, coached by Pete Golding, secured a 32-24 victory over Kiffin’s LSU Tigers. This event thrilled the local crowd and set a new attendance record for the stadium with 70,033 fans present.
“The stadium was full an hour early. So, I guess I had to leave to get them to do that,” Kiffin joked to reporters after the game. “You’re welcome.”
Kiffin had left Ole Miss after achieving an 11-1 record just before their College Football Playoff appearance last season, moving on to coach LSU. He started his tenure at LSU with wins over Clemson and Louisiana Tech, but the defeat by Ole Miss marked his first loss with the Tigers.
Ole Miss is undefeated with a 3-0 record at the beginning of the season. They are now preparing for an away game against the Florida Gators next weekend.
