As of September 11, 2026, a federal jury in Los Angeles reached a verdict regarding Grammy-winning Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks. The jury acquitted him in a murder-for-hire case that targeted another rapper. The charges against him included murder, stalking, and conspiracy.
Five individuals affiliated with Lil Durk’s rap group, ‘Only the Family’ (OTF), faced charges alongside him. The jury found Lil Durk not guilty on all counts. However, two co-defendants, Deandre ‘OTF Dede’ Wilson and David ‘Browneyez’ Lindsey, were convicted of stalking and conspiracy to commit stalking, although they were acquitted on the murder-for-hire charge.
During the trial, federal prosecutors claimed Lil Durk plotted to kill Atlanta rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman. The plot allegedly aimed to retaliate for the murder of Chicago-based OTF rapper King Von. King Von was killed during a confrontation outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta.
Authorities believed the retaliation plan included an incentive, as Durk was accused of offering payment to anyone who would kill Rondo. Keith ‘Flacka’ Jones, one of the accused, pleaded guilty to killing Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, during a 2022 shooting. Jones testified against Durk, Wilson, and Lindsey during the trial. Another defendant, Kavon ‘OTF Vonnie’ Grant, also pleaded guilty and testified against the accused.
Lil Durk, known for his music achievements, won the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his song ‘All My Life’ featuring J. Cole. He received three other Grammy nominations in the past. Conviction in this case could have resulted in a life sentence for Durk.
