The LSU Tigers, ranked No. 15, are on a bye this week as they prepare to face No. 10 Alabama on November 7. The LSU and Alabama rivalry is one of the most eagerly awaited matchups in college football and usually garners primetime attention. This year’s game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET at Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge.
Kiffin’s Concerns Over Game Timing
At a recent press conference, LSU head coach Lane Kiffin expressed dissatisfaction over the game’s timing. Traditionally a night game, Kiffin suggested the SEC intentionally scheduled it in the afternoon, potentially favoring the Crimson Tide. Tiger Stadium’s night games are known to be challenging for visitors.
“I was like, well, if someone thinks the SEC wants us to win this year after what’s been going on, they must have just been on Mars the last four months,” Kiffin said, according to On3.
He added, “Especially in 16 years, this game has been at night here all the time. I never even considered that it wouldn’t be at night. So I guess that’s probably naive of me.”
Off-the-Field Tensions and Game Significance
Kiffin’s remarks occur amid tensions between LSU and the SEC due to recent controversies involving players previously associated with NFL teams being recruited by LSU before the season.
The matchup between LSU and Alabama holds significance for both the SEC championship and College Football Playoff prospects. Although not a night game, Tiger Stadium is expected to be loud and electric as the Crimson Tide visit Baton Rouge.
Alabama has a strong record against LSU, winning the last three meetings and 13 of the previous 15 games. However, LSU’s notable home victory came in 2022 with a 32-31 overtime win.
