Many recall the childhood excitement for annual sports video games like Madden and NHL. However, as years pass, the updates in these games often seem minor. The upcoming Madden 27 highlights one such upgrade—the Tush Push. This feature now debuting in a video game comes with a price tag.
The Tush Push has proven effective in actual sports, causing other teams to demand its restriction. Despite its appeal, the cost of acquiring this move in a video game is questionable.
EA Sports has released early glimpses of Madden 27, showing players like Fernando Mendoza and Myles Garrett in new team uniforms. An in-game scene suggests the presence of the Tush Push move. Pro Football Talk indicates both Madden 27 featuring Caleb Williams on the cover and College Football 27 will be unveiled soon. Yet, the limited new features may not entice fans to purchase.
When buying a sports game, many hope for two to three years of roster updates. This model would provide fresh players annually while reserving full releases for significant updates. EA Sports has attempted this, but with mixed results.
For example, the F1 25 game followed a strategy of releasing new content via DLC every other year. The latest DLC costs $50, nearly matching the original game price. This approach raises questions about paying prices for minor improvements.
The long-term success of such a strategy and its adoption by other franchises remains to be seen. While some may pay for singular features like the Tush Push, the overall value is debatable.
