The search for Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, aged 22, extends into the seventh day in Kansas City, Missouri. Suspected of killing one person and injuring four more, Sanchez-Munoz’s family stated he showed signs of schizophrenia. The FBI has announced a $25,000 reward for tips leading to his capture.
A body believed to be Sanchez-Munoz was discovered by his family in a burned home’s basement. The police reported that around 2 p.m. local time, the family contacted authorities upon finding decomposed remains under debris. Despite multiple visits, the decomposition was noted only after debris removal led to a distinct smell.
Multiple Searches Without Success
The FBI’s search involved federal partners and K-9 units, exploring the Independence, Missouri property multiple times. Complications arose as the basement was partially collapsed, flooded, and cluttered with debris, hampering efforts.
The manhunt initiated when Sanchez-Munoz was suspected of shooting at vehicles on Interstate 70, near World Cup venues, leaving one dead. An Uber driver transporting soccer fans was among the seriously injured. The FBI warned the public Sanchez-Munoz was ‘armed and dangerous.’ The Acting U.S. Attorney General, Todd Blanche, suspected Sanchez-Munoz was dead inside the home, although police could not confirm this immediately.
Confirmation and Safety
Officials identified Sanchez-Munoz by matching clothing from the recent attacks. A medical examiner will verify identity and confirm the cause of death. Authorities assured community safety, stating all wounded individuals are expected to recover.
