Marvel Studios’ New Horizons Announced at Comic-Con

During the Comic-Con International presentation, Marvel Studios director Ryan Coogler announced an exciting development for fans. David Jonsson has been cast as the new Black Panther, taking on the role originally portrayed by Chadwick Boseman. Jonsson will play the son of T’Challa in the upcoming ‘Black Panther III,’ set for release in December 2028.

Jonsson, who joined Coogler on stage alongside actors Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, expressed his gratitude. ‘Thank you to this family that I have the honor and the blessing to join. I don’t want to say too much, because I want to let the screen do the talking,’ said the 32-year-old actor. Jonsson is recognized for his roles in ‘Industry,’ ‘The Long Walk,’ and ‘Alien: Romulus.’

After Chadwick Boseman’s unfortunate passing in 2020, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ revealed T’Challa’s son in 2022. This led to speculation among fans about the identity of the new Black Panther.

In another surprising reveal, Ryan Gosling will enter the Marvel cinematic universe as Ghost Rider. He will reunite with director Shawn Levy, known for ‘Star Wars: Starfighter,’ with their film slated for release in 2028. Gosling expressed his longstanding desire to portray Ghost Rider. His partner, Eva Mendes, starred with Nicolas Cage in the original ‘Ghost Rider’ film released in 2007, with Cage reprising the role in a 2012 sequel. The rights to the character have since reverted to Marvel, and this marks the character’s debut in the MCU.

Further anticipation arose from Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios chief, who announced the rerelease of Joe and Anthony Russo’s 2019 film ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The film will arrive in theaters on Sept. 25 with new footage connecting it to the Russos’ ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ scheduled for Dec. 18. The Comic-Con panel was hotly anticipated, with fans waiting over a day to enter. Highlights included appearances from ‘Doomsday’ stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal.
