Max Miller Faces Domestic Violence Allegations Amid Re-election Bid

Representative Max Miller has announced his intention to pursue a third term despite facing domestic violence allegations. He has resisted calls to withdraw from the Ohio 7th Congressional District race. Miller expressed confidence in his chances of winning the upcoming November election.

However, a source reported that President Donald Trump advised Miller that his candidacy appears unfavorable. Allegations from Emily Moreno, Miller’s former spouse and daughter of Republican Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, include claims of previous domestic abuse. She accused Miller of threatening her with a firearm and physical assault, although Miller strongly denies these accusations. Senator Moreno has urged Miller to exit the race, citing the intense custody battle over their 2-year-old daughter as a tremendous strain on the family.

If a candidate withdraws at least 90 days before the election, a special primary is required, according to Ohio Secretary of State officials. If Miller withdraws later, the deadline to replace him is 86 days before the election. In such cases, local party chairs would select a replacement, with a notice period of two days for meetings.

Discussions to potentially replace Miller are intensifying, as reported by WKYC. Candidates under consideration include State Representative Mike Dovilla and former U.S. Representative Jim Renacci. These developments occur alongside internal polling indicating Miller trails his Democratic opponent, Brian Poindexter, by 5 percentage points, with 16 percent undecided voters.

The district had previously supported Trump by 11 points in 2024. Poindexter, endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders, argued that those facing abuse allegations should not hold power. The Republican party’s chances of winning have decreased to 31 percent, as per Polymarket data.

The Democratic Women’s Caucus has called for Miller’s resignation, citing his actions as troubling. The group highlighted Miller’s recent sharing of private child images on social media, a move his attorney attributed to error. This incident further distracted from legislative priorities, they stated, urging accountability against power-abusing individuals.

Miller responded by claiming transparency. He announced plans to initiate an ethics investigation into his conduct to address the allegations. Miller declared his readiness to provide all necessary documentation for this inquiry.

The House Ethics Committee has since launched an investigation into Miller’s potential involvement in domestic violence or illegal drug use. Miller reiterated on CNN that he maintains joint custody of his daughter and remains committed to proving his innocence.
