Christina Hines: A New Democratic Hope
Christina Hines, a prosecutor and Democratic candidate, secured her party’s nomination in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District. Her platform emphasizes affordability and leverages her background as a special victims prosecutor to challenge the GOP’s narrow majority in the U.S. House.
“My work was a different kind of chaos. Protecting families from predators isn’t just a job for me. It’s a mission. Now families like ours are getting screwed by a system that only works for the rich,” Hines declared in a campaign video.
The 10th District has recently leaned Republican but remains competitive. Incumbent John James, a Republican, narrowly won previous elections but announced he would not seek re-election, opting instead to pursue a gubernatorial campaign.
Open Seat and Hines’ Platform
With James vacating the seat, Hines presents her candidacy as a means to counteract a perceived overreaching administration and systemic corruption. In her prosecutorial career, she has been involved in cases of sexual abuse, human trafficking, homicide, and hate crimes.
On her website, she lists reducing living costs, raising the minimum wage, and safeguarding federal programs like Social Security as key priorities. Her message has garnered endorsements from local figures, such as former opponent Carl Marlinga and Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor.
Having secured the nomination, Hines will advance to the general election on November 3.
