Mike Tomlin, known for his remarkable tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has now turned to broadcasting, offering his insights on the current state of football. Recently, Tomlin identified Myles Garrett, the outstanding pass rusher for the Los Angeles Rams, as the best player in the sport.
Tomlin, who led the Steelers to victory in Super Bowl XLIII, made these remarks during an appearance on Pro Football Focus’ “NFL Show.” He selected Garrett, formerly with the Cleveland Browns and now a key Rams player, as the top performer in football.
Tomlin’s familiarity with Garrett dates back to his time coaching the Steelers, who shared a division with Garrett’s former team, the Browns. His praise for Garrett stems from the player’s record-breaking performance in 2025, where he achieved 23 sacks in a season, setting an NFL record.
“In the fourth quarter of games, despite trailing, Garrett broke the sack record,” Tomlin noted. He highlighted that Garrett’s ability to perform in adverse situations adds to his legacy.
The addition of Garrett to the Rams’ roster, which already includes future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald, enhances the team’s defensive strength. With a strong offense featuring MVP Matthew Stafford and wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, Garrett’s role becomes crucial as opponents may be forced to rely more on passing plays.
Garrett is set to debut as a Rams player against the San Francisco 49ers, with the game taking place in Melbourne, Australia. Aaron Donald will miss this initial game but might return for the second week’s matchup against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
