NASCAR Legend Kyle Busch Passes Away Due to Complications from Sepsis
NASCAR star Kyle Busch has died from severe pneumonia that developed into sepsis, as stated by his family on Saturday. This illness led to quick and serious complications.
Kyle Busch, known for his record-breaking wins in NASCAR’s top three series, passed away suddenly on a Thursday. The day prior, he lost consciousness while using a driving simulator at a General Motors facility in Concord, North Carolina.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sepsis is a critical condition. It occurs when the body’s response to an infection becomes extreme, leading to tissue and organ damage.
The Busch family had not released a statement until Thursday. Initially, they posted on social media about his severe illness, which required hospitalization. This information preceded the news that he would miss the Coca-Cola 600, an important race of the season.

Busch, aged 41, experienced symptoms including difficulty breathing and excessive heat, along with a cough producing blood, on the day before he died. This information comes from a 911 call CBS News obtained.
The emergency call featured an unidentified individual calmly describing the situation: “I’ve got an individual that’s shortness of breath, very hot, thinks he’s going to pass out, and he’s producing a little bit of blood, coughing up some blood.” Busch was reportedly conscious while on the bathroom floor inside the facility.
Recently, Busch informed his team via radio during a race at Watkins Glen to have a doctor ready for him post-race. The broadcast announced that he was dealing with a sinus cold.
Despite health challenges, Busch achieved a victory in the Craftsman Truck Series race on May 15 at Dover Motor Speedway, shortly before his passing.
Throughout his career, Busch won Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019 while with Joe Gibbs Racing. He holds the record for the most wins in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (102) and the Craftsman Truck Series (69). Combined with 63 wins in the Cup Series, Busch possesses the highest number of wins in NASCAR’s top three divisions with a total of 234 victories.
