President Trump announced in a social media post on Saturday afternoon that a peace agreement with Iran is nearing completion. He mentioned that the ‘final aspects and details’ are under discussion and will be revealed soon.
Speaking with CBS News, Trump stated that U.S. and Iranian negotiators are ‘getting a lot closer’ to finalizing the deal. Sources reveal that the current proposal includes plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, release some Iranian assets in foreign banks, and continue negotiations.
While Trump did not disclose specific details, he emphasized that he believes the agreement will prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. ‘I wouldn’t even be talking about it,’ he remarked if it wasn’t promising. He hinted that Iran’s enriched uranium would be ‘satisfactorily handled’ under the deal. ‘I will only sign a deal where we get everything we want,’ Trump asserted.
According to sources, Trump is still considering proposals and consulting with advisers and foreign leaders. He spoke with leaders of Gulf countries and other nations on Saturday. This includes Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Qatar.
Trump warned that if an agreement isn’t reached, ‘no country will ever be hit as hard as they’re about to be hit.’ Previously, he cautioned that ‘a whole civilization will die’ without a deal and mentioned ‘the Clock is Ticking.’
Secretary of State Marco Rubio commented on ongoing progress in negotiations, noting that ‘there may be news later today.’ Rubio expressed optimism about a potential resolution, noting that ‘this issue needs to be solved.’
