Netflix’s Shift Toward Sports Broadcasting
Netflix is expanding its sports content by hiring well-known sports figures. Elle Duncan, previously with ESPN, is now Netflix’s first full-time on-air sports anchor. Alongside, Ryan Clark’s The Pivot Podcast has secured a multi-year deal with the platform.
This move aims to broaden Netflix’s scope, but commentator Dan Dakich critiques this strategy on Don’t @ Me, stating that embracing specific narratives might alienate some sports fans.
Thomas Pannone’s Historic Perfect Game
In Triple-A baseball, Thomas Pannone achieved a rare perfect game. Pitching for the Nashville Sounds, he led them to a 3-0 victory over the Durham Bulls. Pannone delivered nine flawless innings, retiring all 27 batters with just 94 pitches.
This feat marks the first such perfect game in Minor League Baseball since 2017, only the fifth in the long history of the International League, starting in 1884.
Tense Moments in Nashville’s Victory
The game had tense moments, particularly when Pannone faced a crucial situation in the ninth inning. He recovered from a potential misstep, securing the game’s outcome with precise pitches to retire the final batter.
Pannone, familiar with high-pressure scenarios, previously carried a no-hitter and accomplished an immaculate inning with the Blue Jays. His experience includes time in various minor league systems and international leagues.
The potential for Pannone’s return to Major League Baseball seems likely given his recent performances.
