North Carolina Woman Missing in Grenada
A North Carolina woman, Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, has disappeared during a trip to the Caribbean island of Grenada. Her family and friends have launched an urgent search, hoping for her return.
The Royal Grenada Police Force reported that Waddell, 44, was last seen Wednesday at Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s, where she stayed in the Grand Anse area. Waddell is a physical therapist from Raleigh, measuring 5 feet 5 inches tall, with short blonde hair. A photograph released by authorities shows Waddell with pink hair, as they appeal to the public for help.
Waddell founded Art of Movement Physical Therapy and holds a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She traveled to Grenada with a friend, according to a report by WRAL News.
Her friend, who remained at the Airbnb to take an online course, lost sight of Waddell after she went outside, apparently intending to swim.
“She had her swimsuit on, and she went outside their Airbnb,” Amanda Romano-Harmon said according to local reports. “They had a pool overlooking the bay. Liz was set up out there sightseeing. When her friend finished her online course and looked up, she didn’t see Liz. She went outside and saw her towel on the pier. We believe she went for a swim.”
The friend grew concerned during the next few hours, aware that Waddell didn’t have her phone, leading her to file a missing-person report.
Waddell’s husband, Cailen, was at work when informed of his wife’s disappearance. He shared on social media that he was heading to Grenada to assist with the search, urging anyone familiar with the island to share any helpful information. He described Waddell as a loving and free-spirited individual.
Authorities have requested any information on Waddell’s whereabouts. They are particularly asking fishermen, boat operators, and residents along Grenada’s southern coastlines to assist. An extensive search is in progress with divers, police officers, and St. George’s University students participating.
The U.S. State Department confirmed reports of a missing American citizen in Grenada, stressing the safety and security of U.S. citizens abroad as a priority. However, it refused to provide further details due to privacy concerns but offered to help with filing reports and understanding local procedures.
Aradia Fitness, where Waddell works as a fitness instructor, expressed distress over her disappearance on social media, encouraging community prayers for her safe return.
