Ocasio-Cortez Considers Egg Freezing Amid Future Political Plans

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has announced her decision to freeze her eggs, as she reflects on potential political moves ahead of the 2028 presidential election. The New York congresswoman shared on Instagram that this decision allows her to maintain a sense of control over her life. However, she did not explicitly mention plans to have children.

Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent voice among Democrats’ progressive wing, highlighted the political implications of discussing her personal family plans. On ABC’s ‘This Week,’ she mentioned she is considering running for either president or the U.S. Senate in 2028, potentially challenging Senator Chuck Schumer.

By raising these personal topics, she aims to normalize discussions surrounding the challenges women face in balancing professional and personal life. Moreover, she emphasized the impact of policies under President Donald Trump’s administration. Specifically, she pointed out the administration’s stance against reproductive rights, including abortion and healthy pregnancy access, as catalysts for broader conversations among leaders.

Under Trump’s administration, appointed justices to the Supreme Court were crucial to the 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade, which had previously protected the constitutional right to abortion. Despite this, in 2025, Trump signed an executive order aimed at reducing in vitro fertilization costs.

In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, Ocasio-Cortez sponsored a bill in 2022 to enshrine abortion rights into federal law when Democrats controlled the House.

Ocasio-Cortez commented on the different standards women encounter compared to men. She argued that men in office, or job interviews, rarely face questions about their age or family plans. This reflects the unique scrutiny women face in similar situations.
