Pat Sajak, the former host of “Wheel of Fortune,” recently made a rare public appearance in Los Angeles. At 79, he attended a ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard honoring Air Supply’s Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock, who received their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Sajak, dressed in a gray suit and pink shirt, mingled with the musicians and delivered a speech.
During his remarks, Sajak humorously referenced his own experience with longtime host duties on “Wheel of Fortune.” He noted, “I did my little show for over 40 years” and acknowledged the challenge of maintaining audience interest over time.
“I understand the challenge of trying not to wear out your welcome,” he stated. “But Graham and Russell have been at this for over 50 years, and they continue to entertain their fans and be welcomed by sold-out crowds all around the world.”
Sajak entertained the crowd further with a humorous comment about considering a large Air Supply tattoo on his chest before deciding otherwise. He jested, “I’ll pause a moment while you poke out your mind’s eye.”
After retiring from “Wheel of Fortune” in 2024, Sajak pursued a role in the play “Prescription: Murder” at The Hawaii Theatre. The play ran from July 31 to August 10, 2025, in Honolulu, Hawaii. In June, he updated fans with a video from Hawaii, assuring them he was well and enjoying life.
Addressing his fans, Sajak quipped, “I moved here to Montana, and everything is going just great,” while making an amusing reference to tending cattle.
In a June 2024 Instagram video, Sajak revealed that he initially hesitated when offered the hosting role for “Wheel of Fortune.” He stepped into hosting duties after Chuck Woolery’s departure in 1981, covering both the daytime and nighttime versions.
Sajak humorously described the audition process: “When you work in L.A., in local TV, in a way you’re auditioning every night.” He recounted how he almost turned down the hosting offer, stating, “Yes there are three R’s’ is not exactly a career mover.”
