Patrick Mahomes Sr. Seeks Permission to Attend Son’s Games Amid Probation
Patrick Mahomes Sr., currently on probation after a guilty plea for driving while intoxicated, has filed a motion to watch his son, Patrick Mahomes, play this NFL season. According to FOX10, the motion was submitted Friday in the 7th District Court in Tyler, Texas. Mahomes Sr. is seeking permission to travel out of state for seven games in Kansas City, Missouri; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Cincinnati, Ohio.
The motion acknowledges the requirements Mahomes Sr. must meet to travel. He must submit to urinalysis testing before and after his travels and inform a supervising officer each time he leaves the state.

In 2024, Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, resulting in five years of probation. However, in February 2026, he faced arrest for violating probation terms by consuming alcohol, as stated by Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman. This violation extended his probation by an additional two years.
The filed motion highlights Mahomes Sr.’s completion of 16 weeks of outpatient treatment and 160 hours of community service. It also notes his compliance with ongoing probation conditions, monitored by an ankle device and verified by a Smith County community supervision officer.

Efforts by OutKick to obtain comments from Mahomes Sr.’s attorney and Patrick Mahomes’ representatives were not successful at the time of reporting.
The Kansas City Chiefs are set to open their season against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 1. Although it’s not officially confirmed, Patrick Mahomes is expected to start. He underwent knee surgery in December to repair torn ligaments, yet continues to practice with the first team throughout training camp.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters, “He’s going to keep practicing just like he’s been doing. These are more like practice here, a lot of one-versus-one play these next couple of days. That’s a good thing.”
