The New England Patriots aim to end their championship drought since winning Super Bowl LIII in 2019. However, their ambitions hit a snag as AJ Brown, a key acquisition from the Philadelphia Eagles, may face significant time off the field. Brown injured his ankle during the season’s first Super Bowl LX rematch against the Seattle Seahawks.
Brown fell to the ground after an incomplete pass and received attention from trainers and medical staff. He eventually walked off the field, albeit with a limp. The Patriots announced he was questionable to rejoin the game, pending further medical evaluation and x-rays.
Dr. Deepak Chona shared on X, previously known as Twitter, that Brown might be sidelined for the rest of the game. Chona suspected a high ankle sprain, which traditionally hampers athletic performance.
The Cleveland Clinic describes high ankle sprains as injuries involving the ligaments between the tibia and fibula. Recovery typically spans six to eight weeks, but athletes often face prolonged absence from activity due to the nature of the sprain.
Surgical intervention is rarely needed unless the injury severity escalates. With Brown’s situation still developing, Patriots fans hope for a swift return, given his impressive track record of over 1,000 receiving yards in six of his seven NFL seasons. His performance, teamwork with quarterback Drake Maye, and contribution will be crucial as the Patriots push for another playoff journey.
