Pete Buttigieg Supports NW Indiana Democrats Amid Rising Concerns
Pete Buttigieg addressed Democrats in Northwest Indiana, expressing his commitment to help address current issues. During a stop in Schererville while traveling from Chicago to South Bend, the former U.S. Secretary of Transportation met with 275 Democratic volunteers. The gathering supported U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan and District 1 State Senate Candidate Scott Houldieson.
Buttigieg noted the strong energy he encountered during his travels. He acknowledged growing frustration among the public but highlighted upcoming opportunities for change. He spoke to the group, emphasizing their ability to influence outcomes in the upcoming weeks.
“Part of why I think we’re seeing extraordinary energy and extraordinary results ahead is because there’s a lot of folks who really did expect their lives would change for the better under this president,” Buttigieg stated.
He criticized current policies, blaming them for increased expenses. According to him, initial promises to cut costs failed. Instead, Americans face higher grocery and rent prices due to trade policies and deficits. Buttigieg encouraged action, suggesting the nation can improve its situation.
The former Secretary accused Republicans of failing to defend their policies and criticized their attempts to maintain power through voter manipulation. He referenced District 1 State Senate Republican candidate Trevor De Vries, noting his candidacy stemmed from redistricting failures.
Buttigieg championed the Democrats’ stance against gerrymandering. He asserted their position would resonate loudly when Houldieson is elected. Buttigieg posed for photos with attendees and launched a canvass rally at Andorra Banquets in Schererville.
“We’re closing in on the final argument of everyday life. This has been the direct consequence of corporate greed getting their way in Indianapolis, so we have the chance to reaffirm the message,” Buttigieg stated during a press conference.
He shared a personal story involving his twins, emphasizing the importance of consistent effort to achieve victory. “Good wins when we see to it that it does,” he said.
Houldieson was encouraged by Buttigieg’s visit, stating it bolstered Democratic enthusiasm. He commended Buttigieg’s endorsement, stressing the need to challenge the supermajority.
Rep. Frank Mrvan discussed his work with Hebron farmers, expressing concern over diesel prices and inflation. He reiterated his commitment to holding companies like British Petroleum and NIPSCO accountable.
“I can’t do enough to give working families everything they need, but I can stand next to them, not pose with them,” Mrvan declared, highlighting the economic challenges faced by families.
