The theft of Pokemon cards has significantly increased in California and other regions. Juvenile suspects faced arrest in San Francisco after using pepper spray and advanced tools for a robbery. Another alarming incident occurred in Brentwood, CA, where masked thieves stole cards valued at thousands of dollars within a minute, leading owners to intensify their security measures.
A FedEx truck was targeted outside Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA) in Santa Ana, resulting in nearly $1 million worth of trading cards stolen from over 200 packages. The stolen cards, valued at approximately $963,000, included both sports and Pokemon cards. The heist took place when the FedEx driver was not near the vehicle.
A card collector and YouTuber named SKY-B suffered a loss of 104 cards, many described as ‘irreplaceable,’ with some being ‘case hits’ or unique ‘1-of-1s.’
Collectibles Company, involved in the situation, issued a statement acknowledging the theft of PSA-graded items via a third-party shipping vehicle. The company is collaborating with law enforcement and the carrier for investigation purposes. They have deactivated the certificates of the stolen items and alerted marketplace partners to identify and recover rare and serialized items.
The customer service team of Collectors has reached out to affected individuals and is working on compensation arrangements based on market value. They expressed understanding of the sentimental value these cards hold for collectors and reiterated their commitment to support and assist them. Law enforcement is being engaged to prosecute the responsible parties.
Despite efforts, no arrests have been made and the stolen cards remain unrecovered.
