For six decades, Washington has largely been inactive on the issue of climate change, despite its persistent threat. Government officials have had opportunities to tackle this pressing issue but have opted not to act.
Most politicians, regardless of party affiliation, seem to avoid discussing climate change. Historically, the fossil fuel industry aligned with Republicans, hindering climate action. As a result, Democrats emerged as the party more willing to confront climate challenges. Yet, recent times have seen many Democrats also remaining silent on the topic.
With the November midterm elections on the horizon, political advisors and think tanks are discouraging Democrats from making global warming a campaign talking point. These advisors argue that voters do not prioritize the issue of climate change.
