Authorities suspect that two ransom notes sent to Nancy Guthrie’s family came from the person or group responsible for her abduction. These notes, one of which claimed she had died, were likely sent from the same computer IP address.
The first note demanded millions in bitcoin for Guthrie’s release. Released a few days later, the second note conveyed news of her death, stating it was unintended, according to sources familiar with the notes.
Nancy Guthrie’s daughter, ‘Today’ show co-host Savannah Guthrie, expressed belief in the authenticity of the two notes in a March NBC interview, hinting at the substantial similarity and consistency of the notes compared to others received.
On February 2, a day after Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona home, the first note was sent to three media outlets. It detailed specifics about her home, such as an Apple Watch with a white band on her bedroom floor and a broken back porch light.
The second note, sent on February 6, mirrored the first in style but lacked any demands, as per sources who have reviewed them both.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings addressed the abductors publicly through an Instagram video following the second note, pleading for their mother’s return for a reunion that would bring them peace, also indicating willingness to pay for her safe return.
A dedicated task force, comprising FBI and Pima County detectives, remains active in probing the kidnapping and locating Nancy Guthrie and her captors.
