Rapid Wildfire Threatens Malibu Amid Santa Ana Winds
A wildfire named the Bryson Fire ignited in Malibu on Thursday afternoon, rapidly spreading due to dry conditions and strong Santa Ana winds. The fire quickly expanded from its initial 2 acres to cover approximately 200 acres within a few hours. This alarming growth prompted authorities to issue both evacuation warnings and orders.
The blaze began around 4:40 p.m., and within two hours, it had already consumed 100 acres. Firefighters conducted an air assault to combat the flames. They received support from the Community Brigade, a local volunteer group established to respond to wildfires. This group gained valuable experience following the deadly 2018 Woolsey Fire, which emphasized the need for rapid response measures in the area.
The challenging combination of bone-dry conditions and powerful winds has made controlling the fire particularly difficult. Fire crews remain vigilant as they work to protect the affected communities in Malibu’s mountainous regions.
