Rep. Al Green’s Renewed Impeachment Effort Against Trump

Rep. Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, has once again introduced a resolution to impeach President Donald Trump. Green claims Trump poses a threat to the U.S. democratic republic and its Constitution. He accuses Trump of violating the presidential oath specified in Article II, Section 1, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution.

The resolution alleges Trump misuses his power by directing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as aggressive forces. It accuses them of covert operations, unjustified civilian killings, and instilling fear in communities. The document names several civilian victims, arguing these actions could shift the U.S. towards authoritarianism.

“This type of garbage is contributing to our law enforcement officers facing a more than 1,300% increase in assaults against them,” said White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis. She defends ICE and CBP personnel, highlighting their efforts to reduce violent crime by arresting dangerous criminals.

Despite Green’s attempts, the Republican-majority Congress reduces the resolution’s chances. Previously, Trump faced impeachment resolutions from Green during both his terms. These attempts were unsuccessful, as the Senate did not convict Trump following the House’s charges.

In a letter, Green acknowledges Trump’s defense: “The House won’t impeach, and if it did, the Senate won’t convict.” Yet, he emphasizes that impeachment articles still signal disapproval of presidential conduct.

Al Green’s political career includes multiple impeachment efforts and his service in the House since 2005. Recently, he lost a primary runoff to Rep. Christian Menefee in May. Meanwhile, some warn that a shift in House majority could renew impeachment challenges for Trump.
