Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Immigration History Under Investigation
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., is facing increased scrutiny over her immigration history following a federal search of her Washington, D.C., residence. Reports reveal subpoenas have been issued to her relatives, along with a request from her congressional staff to amend her publicly listed birth year.
Federal agents have subpoenaed Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, among other family members, as part of an investigation into potential fraud and false statements on immigration documents. This was reported by The New York Times, citing sources familiar with the situation. Fox News further confirmed that subpoenas were sent to multiple family members.
Separate reports from the New York Post indicate Omar’s staff requested in May 2019 that the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library adjust her birth year from 1981 to 1982. A former political rival questioned this discrepancy, raising issues about Omar’s account of her path to U.S. citizenship.
HOMAN CONFIRMS ‘CRIMINAL’ INVESTIGATION INVOLVING ILHAN OMAR, SAYS HE KNOWS ‘THINGS ARE GOING ON’
Federal Homeland Security Investigations agents recently raided Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., as part of a criminal investigation linked to her immigration paperwork. The Justice Department confirmed that agents carried out a judicially authorized search warrant.
Omar has denied allegations of immigration violation and accused the previous administration of targeting her with law enforcement. She expressed her views on X, saying this investigation is an attempt to silence her and weaponize federal law enforcement, attributing it to long-standing targeting by former President Trump.
According to emails reviewed by the Post, Omar’s congressional staff initiated communication with the Minnesota library shortly after her congressional tenure began, requesting the birth-year revision.
The library director indicated that Omar’s team was coordinating with Wikipedia, the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress, alongside other references to correct the birth year. However, the original entry was not supported by a birth certificate or other documentation, with the director noting the 1981 date had been sourced from existing references without documentation.
The birth date inconsistency does not verify any falsification of immigration documents, nor has law enforcement stated the discrepancy led to the recent search.
Omar has claimed her citizenship was achieved through her father’s naturalization in 2000, before she reached adulthood. She shared with The Intercept that she obtained citizenship through her father’s citizenship process.

AJ Kern, Omar’s former political challenger, questioned whether Omar was indeed a minor when her father naturalized. Kern’s efforts included filing a Federal Election Commission complaint, demanding citizenship proof via legal channels, although these efforts were dismissed due to jurisdiction issues.
The Times reported that ongoing investigations are evaluating whether Omar’s family, including her deceased father, Nur Omar Mohamed, misrepresented or omitted information during immigration processes.
The scope of this investigation remains uncertain. Federal subpoenas aim to gather evidence without directly implying wrongdoing on the part of recipients.
Earlier federal investigations into Omar’s immigration history did not result in formal charges.

In addition, disclosures related to Omar’s finances are undergoing examination. U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced an investigation into Omar’s financial filings that displayed significant asset value changes between 2023 and 2024.
Fox News Digital analyzed these disclosures involving eStCru LLC, a California winery, and Rose Lake Capital LLC, a Washington-based venture capital firm. In April, Omar updated her filings to reflect a lower asset range than initially reported, citing business liabilities oversight.
The Office of Congressional Conduct recently recommended dismissing misconduct allegations regarding Omar’s financial disclosures, finding no sufficient evidence of false reporting.
Whether the financial probe is linked to Monday’s search is yet to be confirmed.
Former President Trump criticized Omar for altering her financial disclosures, demanding clarity on the matter.
Vice President JD Vance denied prior knowledge of the search, emphasizing an adherence to factual evidence.
Fox News Digital pursued comments from relevant parties and institutions associated with Omar’s investigation.
