Senator Grassley, leading the Judiciary Committee, also highlighted the need for more negotiation to gather enough support for Blanche’s nomination. Despite these efforts, Blanche’s refusal to amend what Republicans view as self-interested provisions shows a focus on Trump’s interests impacting governance.

Cornyn demanded written assurance regarding the IRS deal and emphasized his readiness to oppose Blanche’s nomination. Tillis shared a more optimistic view, yet still called for specific wording to resolve the tax provision’s issue.

Concerns about Blanche’s ties to the White House influenced Cornyn’s stance. Discussions between Cornyn and Justice Department officials aimed to address concerns about a potential $100 million benefit to Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump’s office dismissed Cornyn’s opposition as politically motivated, a claim Cornyn denied vigorously. The debate continues as Blanche, currently acting attorney general, stands short of votes but faces further negotiations to reach an agreement that secures his nomination.
