Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers showed admiration for a rookie following Sunday’s match against the New England Patriots. Surprisingly, his praise was not for a teammate.
Rodgers commended New England rookie Gabe Jacas, saying, “Great (expletive) job, man.” This interaction was captured on video by Morey Hershgordon of 7 Boston. Rodgers acknowledged Jacas’s efforts, noting, “You just kept trying to take my head off.”
Jacas found the exchange entertaining, stating in the locker room, “It was pretty funny to have that interaction with him.” As reported by NBC Sports Boston, Jacas approached Rodgers after the game, describing him as cool.
Jacas earned Rodgers’s praise with his exceptional performance, which included an interception and three quarterback pressures. One of these pressures led to a light-hearted moment between him and Rodgers, while the interception marked the first of his career, dating back to his youth football days.
“It was just surreal because I never had a pick before in my career,” Jacas remarked. He expressed excitement about his first interception happening against Rodgers.
Jacas has shown significant potential early in his career. He achieved his first sack in the season-opener against Seattle and followed it with his first interception in Pittsburgh. His impressive start is particularly noteworthy given his limited participation in training camp due to injury and contract issues.
Despite criticism from head coach Mike Vrabel regarding his contract situation, Jacas has been dedicated to improving his skills. He arrives at 6:45 a.m. each day for personal training before team meetings, working on strike techniques and pass-rush strategies alongside his coach.
Jacas’s efforts are paying off, but the Patriots will need his continued development. Injuries on Sunday have thinned the roster, with Dre’Mont Jones suffering a shoulder injury and Harold Landry III yet to play this season. Jacas, alongside Elijah Ponder and rookie Quintayvious Hutchins, must capitalize on the increased responsibility to validate his draft selection.
If he maintains this trajectory, Jacas might be embarking on a remarkable rookie season at One Patriot Place.
