Trinidad Chambliss made a significant leap from being a Division II standout at Ferris State to becoming a key quarterback at Ole Miss under Lane Kiffin last season. Now, he has the chance to establish himself as a top quarterback prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft with another strong performance this fall.
Lane Kiffin, who is now coaching at LSU, has a new quarterback who might enhance his draft prospects. Sam Leavitt transferred from Arizona State to play under Kiffin. Leavitt previously led Arizona State University (ASU) to a Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. However, his performance declined in 2025 due to a foot injury.
Jordan Reid from ESPN highlighted that several NFL scouts and evaluators believe Leavitt could advance from a Day 2 prospect to a first-round pick if he excels at LSU.
“Quarterback Sam Leavitt is looking to rebound after following up a breakout 2024 season at Arizona State with an injury-riddled seven-game campaign last year,” Reid wrote.
Leavitt is a quick-footed, dual-threat signal-caller whose skills align well with Kiffin’s scheme, which enhances quarterback development. There’s potential for Leavitt to move from his current Day 2 status into Round 1 consideration.
In 2024, Leavitt recorded 2,885 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Despite his foot injury last season, he managed a 5-2 record as a starter, throwing for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Earlier this month, Leavitt stated he was fully recovered, though he still requires foot maintenance during warmups. Kiffin expressed satisfaction with Leavitt’s improved performance in training camp compared to spring practice when Leavitt struggled to throw due to his foot condition. “Now that he’s healthy, he’s had a great week and we’re really excited about him,” Kiffin said.
Leavitt’s supporting cast at LSU is stronger than what he had at Arizona State. He is expected to play a crucial role in guiding LSU into the College Football Playoff this season. A successful run could position him well for a favorable outcome on draft night.
