Senator Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., chose not to respond Tuesday to questions about abuse allegations facing Graham Platner, a Democratic Senate candidate in Maine. As Sanders waited for an elevator at the Capitol, Fox News Digital inquired if he believed the allegations made by women against Platner, whom he has previously supported. Sanders remained silent.
Platner has been accused by several women of abusive conduct. Besides, there is controversy over sexually explicit communications, offensive social media activity, and a tattoo allegedly linked to Nazi symbolism. Despite all these, Platner continues to maintain his innocence against these claims.
During a “Fighting Oligarchy” event with Platner at the University of Maine in Orono, Fox News Digital further questioned Sanders about his stance on the allegations, highlighting his recent campaign efforts for Platner. Sanders again offered no response.
Multiple prominent Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Marine veteran Platner, have defended him. They continue to support his candidacy despite growing scrutiny and negative reports.
Platner is running a high-profile campaign to challenge Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine in the upcoming election. Whether the allegations will sway voter perception in the closely watched race remains uncertain.
