Sarah Drew, known for her role in “Grey’s Anatomy,” shared the impactful advice her father imparted that changed her life. In her latest endeavor, Drew stars in Lifetime’s “When I Said I Do,” portraying Ali Corley, a widowed search-and-rescue K-9 handler who finds love again.
Faith has always been central to Drew’s life. During challenging times, she turned to her father, a pastor, for guidance rooted in the Bible. That’s where she learned one of her father’s key teachings: combating fear with aggressive gratitude.
“One of the biggest, scariest risks was deciding to become a mom,” Drew said. “I was around six months pregnant, struggling with panic attacks due to anxiety.”
Drew’s journey into motherhood was fraught with fear and uncertainty. Despite her success on “Grey’s Anatomy” and her seemingly perfect life, Drew was filled with doubts about becoming a mother.
Seeking guidance, Drew reached out to her father for support through scripture. His response included Bible verses and emphasized gratitude as a method to confront fear. He advised Drew to replace dark thoughts with spoken gratitude for the blessings around her.
Her father’s advice resonated deeply with Drew. Practicing gratitude shifted her mindset and provided clarity during difficult times, paving a new way of thinking focused on positivity.
Since her departure from “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2018, Drew has kept busy writing and acting, including Lifetime Christmas movies. Her latest project, “When I Said I Do,” is inspired by Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black’s song. Drew connected with the film’s themes of resilience and perseverance.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Drew recalls her parents’ encouragement when she pursued acting. They viewed it as a positive outlet for God’s love, and never discouraged her ambitions in Hollywood.
Inspired by movies like “Chariots of Fire,” Drew embraces her work as an expression of her faith. Acting for her is a divine experience, a way she feels God’s pleasure.
Through storytelling, Drew aims to connect with audiences genuinely. Her focus remains on the joy and interpersonal connections acting provides.
