Today show host Savannah Guthrie has made a heartfelt appeal on social media for assistance regarding the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. On Saturday, she expressed her family’s desperation and pleaded for help, following the release of two ransom notes by authorities.
The notes, central to the investigation, seem crucial in identifying the perpetrator through the writing style. One note indicated Nancy Guthrie’s death shortly after her kidnapping, stating, “She is buried in nature now.” The authorities hope that someone familiar with the writing style will come forward.
“We are begging for help. We are desperate. We need someone to come forward,” Savannah Guthrie posted on Instagram. “Someone recognizes the writing in the ransom demand notes.”
In her post, Guthrie also urged individuals to report any unusual behavior they might have noticed in those close to them, indicating potential involvement in the case. She called for courage among those conflicted, urging them to share their knowledge.
Six months have passed since Nancy Guthrie went missing from her Tucson home on February 1. Despite efforts, no suspects have been arrested. Questions remain about the number of people involved and the possible personal connection to her abductors.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has released the ransom notes hoping that the linguistic style may be recognizable. The first note, sent on February 2, asked for $4 million in cryptocurrency, promising Guthrie’s safe release if paid. It contained threats to her life unless the ransom was met.
The second note, sent on February 6, claimed Guthrie had died soon after her abduction. It ended with an apology: “We are truly sorry.” The notes are being analyzed for distinctive linguistic patterns, similar to the procedure used in apprehending the Unabomber, Theodore Kaczynski.
Authorities are scrutinizing doorbell camera footage from Guthrie’s home, which may show an unidentified male involved in preparatory actions before the abduction. The sheriff’s office encourages the community to share information on anyone displaying unusual behavior or changes in appearance or location.
The FBI has released surveillance footage showing a masked individual tampering with Nancy Guthrie’s front porch camera, obstructing it with a plant. They describe the suspect as a male, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall.
