Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, has shown a strong disdain for losing games since taking charge in 2017. Entering his 10th year as head coach, he experienced only one losing season. Yet, after the 2022 season, McVay contemplated stepping away from coaching to explore media opportunities.
In a challenging 2022 season, the Rams ended with a 5-12 record despite winning Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals just a year earlier. During an interview on “60 Minutes,” McVay described this time as a “dark” period. He needed to understand that a few losses did not define him.
McVay’s wife, Veronika Khomyn, gave him a crucial reality check. Reflecting on this, McVay stated, “I was ready to run from coaching to media opportunities.” He mentioned that his wife’s insight helped him realize that quitting would have been the easy way out.
The Rams recovered from their rough patch, achieving two consecutive 10-7 seasons, followed by a 12-5 record in 2025. They advanced to the NFC Championship, where they lost to the Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks. Despite the setback, the Rams considered the season a success.
McVay continues to lead the team, aiming for another Super Bowl run. To bolster their chances, the Rams acquired Myles Garrett in a trade with the Cleveland Browns and brought Aaron Donald out of retirement.
The team lost their Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia. However, they return home for a Monday night game in Week 2 against the New York Giants.
