Sherrionn: An Emerging R&B Artist Navigating Success

R&B artist Sherrionn, a 2012 Crete-Monee High School graduate, is experiencing a breakthrough year. After performing at Lollapalooza and debuting her mixtape, Sherrionn plans to release more projects soon. “Really planning on dropping another project soon,” she said. Her aim is clear—more exposure for her music and herself.

Sherrionn released her debut mixtape, “Honey Trap,” following her signing with Chop Squad Records, an independent label led by Chicago rapper and producer Young Chop. Her first single, “Body,” showcases her talent in dance with engaging choreography. The video has amassed over 430,000 views on YouTube since May 19.

The production by Th3 Ink Factory on “Body” and much of the mixtape adds depth with atmospheric, bass-heavy sounds. Sherrionn’s soulful singing took root in her early years. She credits her kindergarten teacher for introducing her to legends like Bobby Caldwell, Luther Vandross, and The Emotions. “I kind of just found my voice very young,” she recalled. Encouraged by her mother, she joined choir from elementary through high school.

Exploring different styles, Sherrionn integrates pop and hip-hop elements alongside her R&B roots. During her time at Crete-Monee High School, she was trained in classical singing but has since crafted her unique style. Despite considering alternate paths, music remained central to her life. “Anytime I would try to reroute, I could never stay away from it,” she said.

In 2019, she completed her degree in audio engineering and recording arts from Tribeca Flashpoint College. After spending some time in Atlanta, she returned to Chicago, immersing herself in the vibrant local music scene. These efforts led to performances at Lollapalooza and Sofar Sounds in Pilsen.

While enjoying electrifying performances, Sherrionn appreciates the close connection with her audience in smaller venues. “It’s just an easier way for me to connect with the audience,” she shared. Her stage presence shines in intimate settings.

Besides singing and dancing, Sherrionn has gained influence on TikTok, amassing around 174,000 followers. Social media plays a key role in promoting her music and building a dedicated fan community. “It’s just easier now when people feel they know you,” she explained.

Though drawn in many directions, Sherrionn remains focused on growth. “I’m always trying to accomplish something new every day,” she said. Her dedication to progress keeps her eager for the future.
