A tragic incident unfolded at a high school in Nonthaburi province, Thailand, where a shooting led to several casualties. This took place on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located northwest of Bangkok, the nation’s capital.
According to Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan, the shooter was identified as a student who remained inside the school premises. Both deaths and injuries were reported, though exact numbers were not disclosed. Arsit Sampantharat, the permanent secretary for the Interior Ministry, shared these details with news station PPTV.
Images from the scene, captured about an hour after the incident, depict individuals comforting each other outside the school. Meanwhile, police and first responders were seen navigating the secured school building. The status of the shooter has not been officially confirmed by the authorities.
A witness recounted the chaos as students hid inside classrooms, listening to gunshots echoing from another building. Police eventually reached them, ensuring a safe exit from the building.
Such incidents have raised concerns in Thailand. In February, a similar case occurred when a 17-year-old stole a police gun and attacked a public high school in the southern region, resulting in one death and injuries to two others. Moreover, a 14-year-old was accused of a shooting at a major shopping mall in Bangkok in 2023.
