Strategic Silence in Brazilian Elections

A White House adviser recently revealed a strategic move by Flávio Bolsonaro as he leads into the next phase of Brazil’s presidential elections. The decision involves an unusual choice of restraint.

On September 7, a prominent image of a balloon depicting U.S. President Donald Trump was a key feature during the Independence Day parade in Sao Paulo. This event underscored the international political connections at play.

During a visit to the White House in May, Flávio Bolsonaro’s team outlined a specific approach. Although he was a candidate for Brazil’s presidency, Bolsonaro opted not to seek an endorsement from President Trump. This decision reflects a calculated tactic by Bolsonaro, who shares personal and political ties with Trump.
