Suspect Arrested in Virginia State University Shooting

Virginia police have apprehended a 19-year-old suspect linked to a mass shooting at Virginia State University on Saturday. Authorities identified the suspect as Camron Harris from Henrico, Virginia, noting that he is not enrolled at the university. The incident resulted in five injuries, with one victim in critical condition.

The police have yet to disclose the identities of the victims, but revealed that only one was a university student. Following the shooting, an extensive manhunt ensued. Harris was eventually found hiding in a closet within a campus dormitory building.

Police Announce Arrest

Chesterfield Police arrested Harris and issued felony warrants for four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm during a felony. Harris is presently held without bail at Chesterfield County Jail and may face additional charges. The shooting occurred early on Saturday morning, with Harris’s arrest happening hours later.

Incident Details

Authorities responded to reports of gunshots at around 1:28 a.m. on Boisseau Street, near the VSU residence halls. There, five individuals were found with gunshot wounds, according to a university representative.

The university has acknowledged the distress caused by the event among students, parents, alumni, and the wider VSU community. A statement from VSU assures that campus police will maintain a heightened presence as investigations continue. The campus lockdown has now been lifted. Virginia State University, a state-supported historically Black institution, is situated in Ettrick, Virginia, approximately 25 miles south of Richmond.
