White House correspondent Andrew Feinberg has responded forcefully after President Donald Trump labeled him a “sick person” in a heated Oval Office confrontation. Feinberg, who reports for The Independent, took to X to address the incident after Trump singled him out during a press session at the White House.
Feinberg aimed a remark at JD Vance, saying, “Mr. Vice President, if you’re going to insult me at least have the guts to tag my account.” This comment followed Vance sharing a video of the exchange, claiming the president had reprimanded the “imbecile” journalist for misconduct in the Oval Office.
The exchange transpired during a lengthy press event as Trump fielded questions on various domestic and international issues. Video footage shows Feinberg preparing to question the president about his golf courses.
“What’s wrong with you? Are you a sick person?” Trump directed at Feinberg, emphasizing his comment with, “I actually think there’s something wrong with you.” Earlier, Trump had sharply told Feinberg, “Hey! I don’t know who the hell you are, but you better be careful.”
Feinberg stated in another X post that he had introduced himself to Trump roughly five minutes before the interaction. In response to the video, a user suggested, “He should have kicked you out of the Oval.”
This tense interaction occurred following the announcement of a new $25 million fraud whistleblower incentive program at the White House. The initiative aims to provide rewards up to $30,000 for information that helps recover taxpayer money.
Throughout his presidency, Trump, 80, has frequently clashed with the press, often resorting to personal attacks when questioned on policies or past statements. Feinberg, the White House correspondent for The Independent since 2022, previously worked with Newsweek. He declined further comments when contacted.
Feinberg describes himself as a “highly energetic, fearless journalist” with wide-ranging experience in White House and Capitol Hill reporting. He has witnessed and reported on key Washington events, working on breaking news and conceptual stories.
In April, Feinberg conducted a brief phone interview with Trump. During the interview, Trump did not indicate the U.S.’s response if Iranian forces captured an Air Force colonel downed in Iran. “Well, I can’t comment on it because — we hope that’s not going to happen,” Trump said before ending the call. Subsequently, U.S. forces rescued both aviators involved in what Trump described as “one of the most daring search and rescue operations” in history.
On Tuesday, White House officials expressed disapproval of Feinberg’s conduct through a post on X, using a widely criticized slur.
This situation is unfolding, with updates expected to follow soon.
