Although the Grateful Dead performed their final show in 1995, their music and folklore continue to influence new generations. For almost three decades, this has been evident as their spirit inspires both musicians and fans alike.

This year, reporters Isabella Gomez Sarmiento and Felix Contreras from NPR Music embarked on a mission to find answers. During the ‘Days Between’ period — from August 1, Jerry Garcia’s birthday, to August 9, the anniversary of his death — NPR releases a series of stories, interviews, and podcasts.
