Tricia Whitaker Takes Line Drive to the Arm During MLB Game
MLB reporter Tricia Whitaker might need full catcher’s gear for future games after an incident on Friday night. Whitaker was covering the Baltimore Orioles against the Detroit Tigers for Apple TV when she was hit by a line drive from player Adley Rutschman. The ball struck her forearm.
Whitaker shared images showing the Orioles’ medical staff attending to her. On social media platform X, she reassured fans that she was alright despite having an ice pack and wrap on her arm. “In case anyone was wondering – Adley Rutschman’s exit velo is still elite. My forearm is proof,” she humorously wrote. She added, “Found out what it feels like to be the injury update instead of reporting it. 10-day IL, forearm discomfort. (PS I’m fine. Thanks to the Orioles’ medical staff for the wrapping of my arm and ice all game!)”
The Apple TV+ sideline reporter had been positioned on the field earlier in the week before a game between the Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers at Truist Park in Atlanta, Ga.
The game gave Baltimore a 7-4 victory, with Rutschman contributing by going 2-for-5 with a double and, inadvertently, a line drive to a reporter. The rainy weather postponed the next day’s game, giving Whitaker additional time to recuperate.
On social media, Whitaker shared her outfit for the Indy 500 event, suggesting she was recovering well. Aside from line drives, she might now turn her attention to the risk of bouncing tires. Whitaker’s prior interviews have included Kansas City Royals player Tommy Pham and Toronto Blue Jays’ George Springer.
